The CARDS Trial
Patients with Type 2 diabetes have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease compared to the general population, but can this risk be reduced by lowering cholesterol?
That is the question that is addressed by CARDS, the first ever primary prevention study of cholesterol lowering specifically in patients with Type 2 diabetes who have not experienced a cardiovascular event. A total of 2838 patients between 40-75 years old were involved.
CARDS was anticipated to complete in June 2005. As the trial objectives were met early, it was stopped in June 2003.
